She is the definition of the most footloose, fancy free, uninhibited ball of contagiously fun energy. Every once in awhile I get to own her for 48 hours all to myself and we always end up with a new photo session and a stomach ache from laughing together. She is a lovely little human, one of God’s best.

This whim of “I have GOT to start trying new things again” came from my sweet friend Andrea, who handed me a jaw dropping-ly beautiful spread of Gwyneth Paltrow in a recent biography and said..”This is what I want.” The images were dark, mysterious, against the light INDOORS and worst of all, bluish. They looked amazing to me, but it was against everything I had taught myself to do in the past 4 years.. it was surely a step in a new direction. I am working on the project now and will be posting it as soon as they are ready. For the meantime, I am posting photos of her daughter from a session this last fall, but with a few different spins on processing. This is a Lightroom Preset, a black and white with a blue, high contrast filter. It works great for cute freckle faces!
Again, the BW Blue High Contrast for freckles:) These are default presets in Lightroom. Gracie and I had a blast together! We are buddies for life! So I treated her to Krispy Kreme for being such a cooperative and GORGREOUS model!

I have always loved beauty and fashion and now is the time to start building my studio portfolio. So, I geared my sweet friend (and fellow photographer) up with makeup and some messy hair for a sampling of lights and experimentation. For a pair of natural light photographers, this is like speaking a totally new language, but it will be an excellent addition to what we already do. I modeled for Stacey, but I’m pretty positive I got the better end of the deal. Stacey is SO photogenic!!!

Thank you to my eye-candy cousin, Matt and Brie, one of my lovely assistants! She is the graphic designer mastermind behind all of my albums. She started as an intern last March when we met and it’s been heavenly having her around ever since! This portrait session was focused on portraits for a male and female. Brie could also pass as a high school senior model (at 19 years old) but Matt… eh… he’s a working professional, so maybe we’ll just call him a model. In Jamie’s Flash Course session, we focused a lot on lighting, posing and different angles of the face. It’s important to try several angles on your subjects… some will photograph better than others. If you are Matt or Brie, you really have no wrong side. Good for you guys. And thank you, Brie, for being so willing to put my clothes on!! (Matt too, for that matter)

This sweet girl graduated from Heelan High School one year after me. We knew each other simply, but became more acquainted with each other on our choir tour (my senior year, her junior year) when we flew to NYC to sing at Carnegie Hall. It has been 10 years since we’ve talked or had any contact, until she emailed me a few months ago inquiring about the FLASH COURSE! She has been wanting to start a business and take her hobby of photography to a new and productive level. The timing was perfect for both of us. She lives in Cedar Rapids, IA and I was going to be on my 2nd round of Sioux City sessions at the beginning of August! So, my trip was kicked off with a FLASH! Leah was a sponge and a great model in her mini-session… THEN, had the opportunity to shoot one of my booked seniors, Katie, for her Flash Course model!

Aren’t her eyes the prettiest, icy green you’ve ever seen??

Leah was totally on her game… and so was our senior model, Katie Bergdale, a North High senior. They have tons of land around their property on the north end of town, so we took full advantage of the property.
