I love my new friend, Lexi!! …and totally jealous of her fun style and amazing wardrobe ! We opted for a few shots in…. (drumroll, please…) HER BEDROOM!! It was just too magical and royal to pass up!

Emily requested to have a few photos taken with her 10-year old pug… after all, it was Gonzo’s birthday, so it was totally necessary! Isn’t he awesome? While we were walking back to my car, we were talking and I looked over and caught a glimpse of her profile. It’s not like I didn’t notice her beauty throughout the entire session, but this was an aspect and angle of Emily I just couldn’t pass up. I went on to explain to her that seeing beauty (and subsequently ALWAYS having a camera in my hand) is sometimes a blessing and a curse. Though I am always happy to photograph people and their unique beauty, I sometimes find myself unable to stop. There comes a point I just need to put the camera down. That’s when you know you have a passion.. when you find yourself (in 105 degree weather, 30 weeks pregnant, nonetheless) saying.. ok, just one more.. just ONE MORE! Now turn your head THIS way… ok, ONE MORE!!! I LOVE THIS IMAGE, along with all the rest, but this one in particular, might be my favorite.

Grant, along with his mom and aunt flew into Scottsdale last Friday for his senior session! I am always thrilled to have seniors that come from out of state! Thank you for making me feel so special… along with bringing the most beautiful and AMAZING handmade blanket for baby girl on the way! What a thoughtful gift!

Drew Noel: A Heelan High School Senior in Lake Okoboji, IA

Drew’s family has been living in their lake house all summer due to the unfortunate flooding in our old home community, Dakota Dunes. Every family in the community has been displaced, but the Noel’s have a great lake house they were able to retreat to for the summer! I was booked for all of my sessions in Sioux City, but in the middle of the week, I was taking a break to spend time with Chance and his family at the lake (about 2 hours from Sioux City). SO, we booked Drew’s session and photographed him on this amazing Chris Craft on Lake Okoboji! I think Drew was laughing at me trying to keep my balance and whipping around at top speed. Whatever it takes to get the shot, right? I love that he rocked his very well worn boat shoes. So appropriate! When we got back to their lake house, his brothers were all there, so I suggested a few shots of them together. What mother of 3 boys wouldn’t love that!? Aren’t they good looking? I might have been blushing when I took these next 2 photos. Do you know how hard it is to have 3 cute high school boys looking at you with their best smiles? I’m telling you… blushing! haha When we pulled into their driveway, this is what I saw in the front yard. My first thought was… “Oh no! My sweet Drew has been partying!?!?!” I was about to have a little talk with him.. but he quickly correctly me. He works at the local Marina and one of his jobs is to clean out all the boats when they come in for the night. So, he is saving the cans all summer to RECYCLE them! He is saving up for a new watch. Yes!!! He is awesome!!

Emily and I bonded over our shared FAVORITE book! Crazy Love by Francis Chan. This book changed my husband and my life and apparently it did the same for Emily!! We talked all about it, so we had to make sure we represented Crazy Love in her senior pictures. If you are a reader (or if you’re NOT a reader, like me) force yourself to pick this one up. It’s a game changer, for sure. Sisters!! The whole family posed for a photo in the reflection of Keith’s Camaro! Like I said… we bonded. Like long lost sisters. I mean, look at us. geez.

Evan performed his double back flip off the diving board at the end of his session. I was close behind… threatening to get my pregnant body into a swimsuit so I could cool off too! It was a hot one!
