Matt + Steph got married! I have a new cousin!

Matt and Steph have one amazing love story… and since Matt is my cousin, I have a very personal bias toward their experience as a couple. In short, they were each other’s very first relationship… Matt was Steph’s first boyfriend and Steph was Matt’s first girlfriend when they met in 2009. As the world would hear this, one would assume that this couple must be awkward, unattractive, socially inept and unable to find love until their mid 20’s. It was quite the opposite. They both made conscious decisions while growing up to remain pure, waiting.. and waiting.. and more waiting until God brought them the one they were to marry. This also concludes the following… in their relational purity, each of them had also chosen to be physically pure.. not just within their preparation for marriage, their entire lives. Again, as the world would hear this… WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD YOU DO THAT??? Were they a part of some weird religious cult? A solitary living program? Nope. They are both beautiful, well-rounded and perfectly socially adjusted individuals that have been raised to know God and know His promises. They have each taken their faith seriously and literally when it comes to singleness, purity and a marriage covenant. They understood at a very deep and mature level that when the most traditional wedding vows were created, they stated… and still do.. “You may NOW kiss your bride” This means one thing. NOW. Not before, as even that morning, they do not 100% belong to each other. But NOW… she is yours, all yours. Keep scrolling to see their first kiss. Not their first kiss as a couple, their first kisses EVER, and ONLY for each other. What a beautiful love story. You may recognize Jenn, Steph’s equally adorable twin sister! I photographed these exact moments in the exact location for her wedding about a year before! Steph with her mom and dad.. Matt with his dad and brothers! I love this shot of Matt and his sisters, Abbi (left) and Kenna (right) …and all the groomsmen harassing Matt on the right! He sees her for the first time, with tears in his eyes. The KISS!!! (and the VERY happy reaction!)
Steph and the SECOND love of her life.. her twin sister, Jenn’s baby boy coming this winter! I love you both so much! Congratulations and many, many blessings to come!!!!

The new Mr. and Mrs. —Zach and Michelle Roberts! Married in Malibu, CA!

I am SO happy to present to you, the beautiful wedding of Zach and Michelle Roberts! These 2 college lovebirds met while studying at Biola University (the biggest rival to my alma mater, Azusa Pacific, but I don’t judge…) Zach and his family are from northern Cal and Michelle and the Kohouts are natives of AZ! So, Calamigos Ranch in Malibu, CA was a great middle ground for this celebration of a wedding to take place. The venue (most known as “The Ranch” where the participants of The Biggest Loser are filmed) was a GORGEOUS setting with a lot of casual and whimsical elements… including my favorite, the ferris wheel! Michelle and her team of creative brains (her mom and 2 sisters) designed and put together every detail in perfect order.. the windmills and origami birds were all handmade and folded with love in each bend. They did an incredible job and the day and night went off without a flaw. It was an honor to be there!

The girls all pray together before the ceremony starts… How amazing to have a mother, 2 sisters and 7 bridesmaids all praying for you. It was an overwhelming moment for Michelle.. and ME!! Zach and Michelle chose to do a “first look” which is incredibly romantic and allows them to see each other and have a time to spend together before the ceremony. This also helps tremendously when you want to get all of the photos taken pre-ceremony, hence having more photography time for the reception. It makes the day run so smoothly… and makes a calm, happy bride, which makes everything calm and happy!! Is she gorgeous, or what??? I love the look on Michelle dad, Dave’s face here… you betta take care ‘a my girl… or I’ll getcha, son. Here is one of the many benefits to having 2 photographers on your wedding day… multiple angles=double the photos! I thought it would be fun to show the goofy shots we took of the bridal party.. it’s not always so fun to play it safe on the blog.. let’s show the goods! This party was FULL of fun and personality, so it was easy for them and a blast for me! After the cake!

Nick and Socorra tie the knot in Sioux City, Iowa!

This gorgeous day started in Socorra’s hotel room with a gift from Nick! Diamonds and a 8 page hand written letter from him, and tears came from her. Here are the fun totes they had made–to remember surviving the flood of 2011! SSocorra is a dance teacher, so she had all of her little “sugar plum fairies” dance down the aisle before she made her grand entrance with her father! I love this shot of Nick, seeing Socorra come down the aisle for the first time. Everyone released monarch butterflies as they emerged from the church.. you can see a few of them in the shot! TThe view of the reception… a gorgeous display of orchids, pink and white roses in a custom built tent. It was quite a vision! Even the security guards ate donuts and posed for a photo!
Nick and Socorra made their grand entrance and did a “Dancing with the Stars” type of dance. The entire crowd had goosebumps from head to toe, including Amy and I! The night ended with a very grandeur, surprise firework show as the couple was taken away on a horse drawn carriage. Amy and I had a blast photographing this day. Here is a little memento of our excitement!

Ok, ok, ok, I TOTALLY apologize in advance for this extended blog post, but this one is extendedly (??) special. This is my beautiful cousin, Katey and her sweet new husband, Bryan! I was honored to be so involved in this weekend of amazing events and I could not be more proud of this girl!! Congratulations, Kate. God has been overly good to you!!!

My Aunt Deb on the left and my mom on the right, zipping Kate up into her dream dress! Katey hand wrote her vows before the ceremony. (…aaaand we had to reapply her makeup). Her gorgeous Manolo Blahnik shoes and her clutch for the day. Her bridesmaids got matching clutches in black! The vows were tearful, and Katey chose to have her brother Matt stand up with her as her “Man of Honor” (SO CUTE!!!) My brothers took turns twirling our grandma, Maddy.. She may be 80, but this chick can cut a rug. This is Jeremy dancing with her! Katey and her Dad.. Katey and her brother, Matt.. the man of honor. My brother Jobe and his wife Katie… getting down. My pretty mom with the “getting down” couple… And this is Jobe dancing with her!
